Rurouni Kenshin Announces Season 3 Anime

Rurouni Kenshin Season 3 has been officially announced at the ongoing AnimeJapan 2025 event. A special trailer that recaps the story so far was also released. Soma Saito, Rie Takahashi, Taku Yashiro, Yuma Uchida, Hino Satoshi, and Makoto Furukawa were present at the event to deliver the news. The second season, titled Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Disturbanceended earlier this week with Episode 23 (Episode 47 overall).

Rurouni Kenshin – Special Trailer

The anime is based on the manga written by Nobuhiro Watsuki. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 to 1999, while the sequel, Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arcbegain in 2017. Viz Media licensed the manga in English. The Kyoto Disturbance arc started in Volume 8 of the manga, which is described:
In the 11th year of Meiji, on the day marked in the Western calendar as May 14th, time once again begins to flow. The shocking midday murder of Department of Internal Affairs Chief Okubo a fait accompli, Kenshin leaves for Kyoto, scene of chaos and bloodshed–against the wishes of nearly everyone who knows him as the gentle “rurouni.” Awaiting him there is Shishio Makoto, the hitokiri who replaced the cold-eyed assassin Himura Battosai who forswore further killing and took up the reversed-blade sakabatô. But does Kenshin go to Kyoto for a duel…or for a death-match?!
