Manhwa Review: Father I don’t Want This Marriage Vol. 2

Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage Vol. 2 by Hong Heesu, with illustrations by Roal and adaptation by Yuri, has been released. If you’re wondering where the story will go next, a series of misunderstandings will only get more complicated. New layers of confusion pile up, keeping the drama alive.

Juvelian, infamous daughter of the legendary Duke Floyen, must rebuild her reputation if she is going to survive the events that led to the end of her previous life. Amid scandalous rumors of a secret lover, she makes careful plans for the debut of her reformed self at an aristocratic birthday party. But finding a suitable escort for the event proves more difficult than Juvelian expected.

When she discovers that her father is making plans of his own—ones that see her married off to the tyrannical crown prince—Juvelian is determined to thwart them. The only problem: She’ll need to convince Max, her father’s unpredictable protégé, to join the scheme.

Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage Vol. 2 Story Review:

If you haven’t read my review of Volume 1, which covered the basics of the story, you should know that this series thrives on misunderstandings. Volume 2 keeps riding that same chaotic road. This time, the story dives deeper into the perspectives of both the father and the daughter, Juvelian, while also giving us glimpses into the male lead, Max’s, conflicted thoughts.

We see Juvelian’s fear of her father and his hidden care for her, which everyone except her seems to recognize. Her past life memories blind her to the truth, and this volume finally kicks off the core premise: Juvelian’s desperate attempt to avoid marriage, specifically to the prince (who she doesn’t realize is actually Max, her father’s student.).

The story introduces new characters and explores Juvelian’s interactions with them, slowly setting up future conflicts. What I love about this volume is its perfect pacing, it doesn’t rush or drag, instead laying solid stepping stones for the plot. The multiple perspectives add depth, and while there are moments where you’ll scream for the characters to just talk to each other, their internal misunderstandings are oddly hilarious.

The father-daughter dynamic is a slow burn, they won’t open up easily, but that’s the whole charm of the story. If you enjoy dramatic irony, tangled emotions, and a comedy of errors, this volume delivers exactly that. Buckle up, because the misunderstanding train is still going full speed!

Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage Vol. 2 Design Review:

When I reviewed Volume 1, I was pretty harsh about the cover design. My view of the layout right now: It doesn’t feel weird anymore as I got used to it. After looking at Volume 2’s English edition alongside the Korean original, I’ve come to appreciate the differences.

The English version tweaks the background, making the window details more prominent. The Korean edition uses a white background where the windows appear more subtle – this helps Max stand out sharply. What’s impressive is how the American version still makes Max pop while adopting a darker, more prosperous color scheme.

I’m still not completely sold on the bright text and fonts (maybe it’s an acquired taste). Still, the English adaptation does an excellent job of staying true to the original while establishing its own identity. The darker tones complement Max’s attire and create a more dramatic feel, contrasting with the Korean version’s clean white backdrop.

My personal preference is the English edition’s deeper colors—they match Max’s intensity and give the windows a mysterious, shadowy appearance. The English cover preserves the spirit of the original while developing its own distinctive style, and I think that’s quite successful!
