Gawr Gura from Hololive has just announced her graduation, which will happen on May 1, 2025. The news was shared in a short stream on her YouTube channel, followed by a formal announcement on the Hololive EN X (Formerly Twitter) account.

Gawr Gura is considered to be the biggest VTuber currently, with more than 4.500.000 subscribers on YouTube. She holds that title since July 2021, when she overtook Kizuna Ai, one of the oldest and most recognisable names in the VTuber scene, ushering in a new era for EN VTubers. Being so iconic means her graduation announcement is likely to send waves through the VTuber scene.

An emotional Gura explained during her announcement stream that her graduation is due to disagreements with management as well as with the direction the company is heading. She also talked about her personal evolution in Hololive and thanked the viewers for their support, and announced she will be conducting a last project in Hololive before graduating, with details still to be announced.

In an official communiqueHololive thanks the fans for their support and suggests that while the news may be difficult for the fans, they respect the talent’s decision to leave and wish her the best.

Since her debut as a member of hololive English -Myth- five years ago, Gura has touched the
hearts of fans around the world, become a beloved face for VTubing in its early stages, and played
an instrumental role in the growth of hololive production. To all the fans who have shown their
unwavering love and support, we sincerely thank you. While we understand that this news may
be difficult for many, we deeply respect and support Gura’s decision as she begins her next chapter.
We are endlessly grateful for Gura’s remarkable contributions and wish her nothing but success
and happiness on her journey forward.

Gawr Gura is part of the first generation of Hololive EN -Myth, along with Amelia Watson, Ninomae Ina’Nis, Mori Calliope, and Takanashi Kiara. While the VTubing scene is much more established nowadays in the English-speaking world, when Myth debuted in 2020, they were considered trailblazers and they contributed to the huge boom of the VTubing scene that happened since. Amelia Watson had announced back in September 2024 that she would stop streaming activities.
